What Makes Pusoy Different from Poker?
A lot of people outside the Philippines confuse Pusoy with regular poker, and while they share some DNA – a standard 52-card deck, hand rankings, and the importance of reading your opponents – they're actually quite different games.
In classic Pusoy Dos (also called Big Two), the goal is to be the first player to get rid of all your cards by playing them in valid combinations. It's less about hidden information and more about card management, timing, and reading when to push and when to hold back. The player who empties their hand first wins, and the remaining players score penalty points based on how many cards they still hold.
Russian Poker, on the other hand, plays more like a heads-up poker variant against the house. You receive five cards and try to beat the dealer's hand using standard poker rankings. There's also the option to buy a sixth card or exchange cards, which adds a strategic layer that keeps experienced players engaged.
